Carriacou, A Seemingly Undiscovered Gem.

Quietly tucked away, Carriacou is a gem yet to be discovered.  It is the second largest of the tri-island state of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique and today remains a pristine, seemingly untouched gem in the Southern Caribbean. If you are hoping to surreptitiously slip away for a few days, this island will fulfill that need. 13 square miles of unadulterated beauty with deserted beaches, rolling mountains and spectacular views will enchant even the most cynical of travelers. The population of about 6,000 will ensure that your stay there is memorable. If it is privacy you seek, you can have it.  If you wish to  socialize with the locals,  learn about their culture, and live like a local,  they will happily ensure your wish is granted.  You can sail, snorkel or take a day trip to one of the neighbouring islands., relax on the beach or drink a Carib Beer at the local shop. . .

There is a small airport in Carriacou, but  you'll find no direct flights to the island.  However, getting there is fairly easy. Fly to Grenada’s Maurice Bishop International Airport then on to Carriacou via SVG Air.  If you prefer an adventure on the sea, head to Carriacou with the daily ferry, Osprey Lines.

As far as accommodation goes, in Hillsborough, the island’s capital you’ll find Hotel Laurena,  offering both comfortable apartments and rooms. A restaurant is on the premises serving local and international cuisine -  a must-visit, as your stay on the island will not be complete until you’ve eaten at the Laurena’s Restaurant & Bar’s Jerk Centre.

Carriacou Grand View Hotel in Beausejour presents a lovely setting with private balconies giving breathtaking views of the ocean and the wide expanse of surrounding lush tropical foliage. Relax in the hotel’s warm freshwater pool, savor the sumptuous culinary treats at the Grand View Restaurant, or curl up with a good book borrowed from their library - you decide. To end your night, head to their piano bar and enjoy the ambience while sipping on one of their signature cocktails.

Bogles Roundhouse’s quaint cottages are set in pristine surroundings. Elegant, with views of the beach it is certainly the perfect getaway. Sumptuous food, beautiful gardens, beach a stone’s throw away, a stay here is guaranteed to be pleasurable.

Green Roof Inn, a lovely family-run guest house,  quiet with great views and a restaurant on site.
